GIOVANNA COPENACE

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear Giovanna Copenace on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Man.

Born on Dec. 19, 1981, Giovanna has fulfilled her time here on Mother Earth and she has been called home to return to the spirit world.

Our dear Giovanna will be greatly missed by her greatest joy, her son, Cameron; mother, Carol; and father, Noel (Darlene). Giovanna also leaves to mourn her siblings, Janine (Jamie), Kayla (Ron), Matthew, Shannon and Trisha (Jonathon), Brittney, Jasmine, and Skylar.

She also is survived by her grandmother, Melvina; grandfathers, Ernie (Karen) and Alvin; aunties, Lorraine (Darrell), Sherrise (Brad), Vanessa, Lindsay, Agnes (James), Elizabeth, Marie, Susan (Rod), Patsy, Bernadine, Brenda (Wayne), Audrey (Otto), and Rhonda (Joerg); uncles, David, Fred (Sandra), John, Shannon, Albert (Caroline), Stanley, James, Gary (Stella), and Clifford (Rose); and numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Kenneth Big George, and James and Hannah Comegan; aunties, Sharon, Debra, and Starr; and uncles, Ronnie, Larry, Carl Sr, Marshall, Donald, and Albert.

Giovanna was very special with her small stature and big heart; she was never one to give up on the many challenges she faced. She had a loving and soft demeanor to everyone and a cute giggle that was contagious; it just made you want to laugh with her, especially when being teased or hearing a good joke.

Giovanna enjoyed being on the computer, writing, listening to music, and visiting her relatives. Her passion since she was a little girl was being a Jingle dress dancer, and she also had represented our community as Miss Big Grassy at various pow-wows.

Giovanna was in the Alternative Education program and was a part-time receptionist at the Esiniiwab Health Centre. She always will be remembered in our hearts because of her strength and sweetness, and will forever be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.

A traditional wake will be held at the Big Grassy Hall on Wednesday evening, Oct. 8, and the service on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 in the morning with Elder Ralph Kent officiating.

Interment will follow at Big Grassy Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kari Comegan, Carl Tuesday, Albert George, Farrell Mandamin, Fred Archie, and Curtis Copenace.

The honourary pallbearers will be all of her family and friends.
