It is with profound sadness that the family of Frances (Marie) Grennier announce her passing on Sunday, March 29, 2020.
Marie loved her family, especially her husband Buzz -who pre-deceased her nine days earlier. She was his Mama Bear and he was her Boo. Together they have seven children, fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Marie was born in Middlebro, Manitoba on August 20, 1939. She moved to the Rainy River district in the 1950's, where she remained her entire life.
Marie loved to cook and bake. She was famous for her pies, Sunday brunch and family dinner at the table every night. She was most popular for her Christmas baking. She was an avid gardener and canned almost everything you can think of. Marie had a great sense of adventure. She loved travelling, fishing and camping. When their kids grew up, Marie and Buzz wintered 29 years in Florida.
Marie had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She was their Nana and they were her pride and joy. She had a unique and special relationship with each and every one of them.
Marie worked at Dairy Queen in Fort Frances until her retirement in the late eighties. It was there where she became a familiar face and made many friends in the community.
Diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis in her forties, Marie never let it slow her down. She never complained or felt sorry for herself. She simply learned to live with her new normal and made the best of each and every day. In the midst of her pain, she canvased locally to raise money for the arthritis society -a cause she truly believed in.
Marie was remarkably strong and remained strong throughout her illness. This is her legacy. A legacy that will live on in her children and grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her children Victor (Twila) Stamler, Peggy (Dean) Bruyere, Carrie Lynn (Pat) Murphy, Carey (Bev) Grennier, Peter (Kim) Gardiman, Dina Gardiman; grandchildren, Kyle (Shelly) Stamler, Aaron (Brittany) Stamler, Cody Stamler, Michael Murphy, Spencer Murphy, Jasmine Jordain, Kobe Gardiman, Judd (Sabine) Gardiman, Kayla Gardiman, Ava Gardiman, Izzy White, Jordan (Chad) Leimenstoll, Calliegh Grennier, Chrisitan Grennier, Justin Grennier; great-grandchildren Drew, Kasey, Avery, Emmy, Ethan, Ellie; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her sisters, Elaine Stamler, May Kearny, Patty (Dave) Evans, Chris (Charles) Habstritt; and brothers Vernon (Joanne) Hodgeson and Percy (Linda) Hodgson.
Marie is predeceased by her husband Buzz Grennier; son Percy Stamler; first husband George Stamler; her parents John and Borgild Hodgson; brothers Jack, James, David and Bob Hodgson; and sisters Grace Stamler and Gloria Hebel.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Marie's life will be held this summer. If friends so desire in memoriam donations may be made to the Fort Frances Community Chest or the Arthritis Society in care of Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ontario, P9A 3M8.
