A U.S. resident has been fined $2,500 for illegally-hunting moose at a remote lodge in Northern Ontario.
Allen Fenwick of Willisburg, Ky., pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting moose without a licence.
His firearm was seized and will be returned upon payment of the fine.
Court heard that Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers were conducting checks on remote fly-in camps last Sept. 23.
They landed on the Attawapiskat River near Pym Island, north of Geraldton, to check a group of hunters.
They found that Fenwick had a rifle at his feet in his canoe and ammunition in his pocket—even though he did not have an Ontario hunting licence.
Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron heard the case May 17 in Geraldton.
Other charges against an outfitter are pending.
