Emo Wings take flight


Emo minor hockey teams tamed their opponents over the past week.

In Novice action, Jordan Davis notched the hat trick as the Emo Wings soared over Emo OPP 3-0.

Then against the Times Tigers (Fort Frances), third-period goals by Davis and Chris Strachan erased a 1-0 deficit to give the Wings a hard-fought victory

Meanwhile, the Emo OPP dumped visiting West End Motors (Fort Frances) by a 6-1 count. T.J. Roen led the way with three goals while Riley Caul, Matt Beck, and Jared Baker netted singles.

S. Loyie scored the lone Fort goal.

The Emo Rockets also continued their winning ways by bouncing Foodtown (Fort Frances) 9-1, getting four goals in both the first and thrid periods to ice the victory.

Ryan Witherspoon paced the Rockets with four goals, with Braden Baker netting two and Luke Judson, Chris Mutz, and William Brandon getting one each. Matt DePiero saved Foodtown from a whitewash.

In Bantam action, the Emo Cowboys got goals from Donald Kellar (two), Matt Meyers, Nathan Shute, Jeff Friesen, Dan Schulzki, and Cole Kaemingh en route to a 7-4 win over the UNFC Dukes (Fort Frances).

J. Wiersema, C. Perron, and D. Lovisa replied for the Dukes.

But against the Oddfellows (Fort Frances), the Cowboys gave up a late goal to settle for a 4-4 tie.

Ken Vargas, Jeff Friesen, Jeff LaFleur, and Nathan Shute scored for Emo while Jon Yellowega (two), Lawrence Kelly, and James Algie hit the twine for the Oddfellows.

Meanwhile, the Emo Panthers won both their games in PeeWee action including a 2-0 shutout over the Kentucky Colonels (Fort Frances) on goals by Nylin White and Jesse Toppe

Then against Gillons’, J.J. Landry (two), Zac McBride, and Nylin White scored en route to a 4-1 win. Jake Butcher got Gillons’ lone marker in the first period.

The Emo Panthers later scored their third win against Fort Frances by a 5-1 count. Nylin White led the hosts with two goals while Daniel Hettinga, Dave Goodman, and Luke Carlson tallied one each.

Nathan Robar spoiled Emo’s shutout bid.

Finally, Emo Gillons’ could only muster a 5-5 tie against the Lions (Fort Frances). Dan Murray led the way for the Lions with a hat trick while Mark Kellar and Terry Kellar added singles.

J. Webb had a hat trick for Gillons’, with G. Hartlin and Dylon McGinnis also scoring.
