Emo pucksters split games


Emo teams played .500 hockey against opponents at the Emo Arena this past week.

In Novice action, the Emo Rockets scored in the first period and then netted to more tallies in the third for a 3-0 shutout against visiting Rainy River.

Brady Baker, Ryan Witherspoon, and Charlie DeBungie scored for the Rockets.

Meanwhile, the Emo Wings were clipped 6-2 by visiting Skates and Blades (Fort Frances). Dan Chapman scored three first-period goals to pace the Fort squad, with George Ossachuk (two) and Kevin Bobczynski getting the others.

Travis Showalter replied for the Wings.

In Atom action, the host Emo Selects scored a lopsided 7-1 win against Fort Frances. Brett Meyers and Ryan Mutz led the way with two goals each while Matt Redford, Devon Allison, and Brock Benjamin had singles.

Brandon Roden broke Emo’s shutout bid.

Then the Emo Leafs overcame a one-goal deficit with just over two minutes to play to tie visiting Fort Frances 3-3. Ryan York, Ian Lougheed, and Josh Swire scored for the Leafs while Josh Sigurdson (two) and Andrew Lundy rifled home goals for the Fort.

In PeeWee action, Rainy River blanked both the Emo Panthers (5-0) and Gillons’ (8-0). Yuri Ewald sparked his team in their first game with two goals, with Sam Firth, Blake Mykytyn, and Kevin Nordberg netting singles.

Alex Matthew, Mitch Gouliquer, and Jason Seguin each scored twice in their second game, with Erik Peterson and Mykytyn adding singles.

In PeeWee/Bantam action, the Emo Predators outscored the Emo Cowboys 3-0 on goals by Donald Kellar, Cole Kaemingh, and Ken Vargas.

The Cowboys also can the short end of a 3-1 score against the visiting UNFC Dukes (Fort Frances). Randy Martin (two) and Travis Green scored for the Dukes in the first period while Jeff Friesen rifled home Emo’s lone tally.
