With the federal election coming up Oct. 14, the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce once again is providing a chance for local candidates to speak on issues at a forum tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The forum will be run much like previous ones, Chamber manager Dawn Booth said this morning.
All candidates for the Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding will be invited to the forum, where they will be allotted time to discuss themselves, their priorities, and their action plans, as well as answer questions posed by local media.
These questions will be based on topics generated by the Chamber membership.
“What we’re doing right now is sending out a fax to all Chamber members asking if they have certain topics that they want discussed,” noted Booth.
“They’ll let us know, and then we’ll go through and pick the top five or whatever topics. Then we’ll ask the media to formulate a question for each topic,” she explained.
The confirmed candidates for Thunder Bay-Rainy River so far are Russ Aegard (Green), incumbent Ken Boshcoff (Liberal), Richard Neumann (Conservative), and John Rafferty (NDP).
At it stands right now, the forum will take place on the evening of Sept. 30 at the Civic Centre. Booth said the tentative status of the scheduling hinges on confirming television coverage on Shaw Cable (Channel 10).
In other federal election news, it was announced that advanced voting will be take place here Oct. 3, 4, and 6.
