Tie breaker to decide Muskie OFSAA fate

Category:

The Muskie girls' and boys' hockey teams came up with some big-time performances with their seasons on the line.

Both squads came away with crucial wins in Game 2 over the weekend to knot their respective best-of-three NorWOSSA finals at a game apiece.

Trailing 3-1 in the second period, the first-place Muskie girls rallied to snare a 5-4 win over the second-place St. Thomas Aquinas Saints in Game 2 on Saturday night in Kenora.

Abbie Kenny, Tatum Glowasky, Issy Taylor, Kathryn Fischer and Jill Calder all lit the lamp to pace the Muskies' offence.

Chloe Skead scored twice while Maren Turner and Natalina Reynard also replied for the Saints.

A third-and-deciding game is set for tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena in Fort Frances.

The winner advances to the 'A/AA' OFSAA championship in Stratford running March 24-26.

Meanwhile, Mikel Ward netted a hat trick to pace the first-place Muskie boys to a 10-1 rout of the second-place St. Thomas Aquinas Saints in Game 2 on Friday night in Kenora to knot that final series at 1-1.

Peyton Avis tallied twice while Ashton Cousineau, Kaden Kocuiba, Jace Jackson, Josh Ward, and Jacob Albright also found the back of the net to pace the onslaught.

A third-and-deciding game is set for tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the '52 Canadians Arena in Fort Frances.

The winner advances to the 'A/AA' OFSAA championship in St. Catharines running March 25-28.
