Soccer Muskies finish unbeaten

The Dryden Eagles were playing soccer.
The Muskies opted for pinball.
Cam Lidkea, Max Williams, and Kevin Metke each tallied twice as the black-and-gold routed the Eagles 10-0 on the final day of the NorWOSSA regular season yesterday in Kenora.
Tyler VanUden, James Gushulak, Adam Stromberg, and Caleb Koomans netted singles for Fort High, which reached a season-high in goals despite missing regulars Ian Jodoin and Cam Gushulak, along with keeper Cole Kowalski, due to the FFHS Travel Club’s trip to Italy.
Justin Angus earned the shutout.
Just as the blowout over Dryden was atypical after two much-closer games earlier this season, the Muskies went against the normal script in their second game as they only nipped the host Broncos 2-1.
Williams had both goals for the Muskies (6-0-0), who had bombed Kenora by scores of 7-0 and 8-0 in their two previous matchups.
Connor McArdle notched the lone goal for the Broncos on a penalty kick in the second half to tie things up before Williams’ blast found the back of the net in the 60th minute.
The Muskie girls (6-0-0) also finished with a spotless regular-season record after blanking Dryden 5-0 and then edging Kenora 1-0 yesterday.
Maggie Jean, Claire Hyatt, Sydney Radigan, Jess Steele, and Jenny Hammond scored against the Eagles.
Jean bulged the twine against Kenora.
Bryanna Dustin and Moriah Carradice played one half apiece in both games to share the shutouts.
By finishing in first place, both Muskies squads earned byes to their respective finals at the NorWOSSA playoffs this coming Wednesday in Dryden.
They’ll face the winners of the semi-final clashes between the host Eagles and Broncos earlier in the day.
The girls’ champion qualifies for the OFSAA ‘AA’ championship in North Bay while the boys’ winner heads to Kingsville.
Both those tournaments will run June 2-4.
