RRHS salutes top athletes


Another great year of Rainy River High School athletics has come to a close.

So it was time to reward the Owls for all of their hard work over the past year with some athletic awards.

And the winners were:

  • Jr. girls' basketball—Tala Quran (top rookie), Carenna Haw (most improved), Miceala Jolicouer (most sporting), and Katelyn Brown (MVP).
  • Sr. girls' basketball—Taytum Stone (most improved), Mackenzie Jolicouer (most sporting), and Lynelle Westover (MVP).
  • Jr. boys' volleyball—Tyson Maki (top rookie), Braydon Holmes (most improved), Connor Ivall (most sporting), and Carlin Drennan (MVP).
  • Sr. boys' volleyball—Liam Pearson (most improved), Hayden Haw (most sporting), and Jackson Arpin/Nick Vogan (MVP).
  • Jr. girls' volleyball—Madison Kreger (top rookie), Naomi Carradice (most improved), Taya Hagarty (most sporting), and Katelyn Brown (MVP).
  • Sr. girls' volleyball—Mackenzie Jolicouer (most improved), Aynsley Williams (most sporting), and Lilly Blakeney/Paige Stamler (MVP).
  • Jr. boys' basketball—Mike Vogan (top rookie), Will Low (most improved), Caleb Jack-Gibbins (most sporting), and Walid Quran (MVP).
  • Sr. boys' basketball—Brendan Wilson (most imprived), Zak Quran (most sporting), and Nick Vogan (MVP).
  • Curling—Emma Low (most improved), Mackenzie Jolicouer (most sporting), and Hayden Haw (MVP).
  • Jr. badminton—Tyson Maki (top rookie), Kevin Abbott (most improved), Kirsten Armstrong/Carmen Gill (most sporting), and Madison Kreger/Tala Quran (MVP).
  • Sr. badminton—Micaela Jolicouer (most improved), Aynsley Williams (most sporting), and Jackson Arpin (MVP).
  • Girls' soccer—Laura Dykstra (top rookie), Erika Gerula/ Mackenzie Jolicouer (most improved), Grace Kooistra/Lynelle Westover (most sporting), and Naomi Carradice (MVP).
  • Boys' soccer—Caleb Jack-Gibbins/Blake Ferris (top rookie), Caleb Jack-Gibbins/Jack Wood (most improved), and Nick Vogan/Skylar Friesen/Reece Chorney/Jackson Arpin (MVP).

Individual awards

  • Jr. Female Athlete of the Year—Katelyn Brown
  • Jr. Male Athlete of the Year—Joe Tiboni
  • Sr. Female Athlete of the Year—Paige Stamler
  • Sr. Male Athlete of the Year—Nick Vogan and Jackson Arpin
  • Michael Smith Award—Jackson Arpin
  • Gold Jacket Awards—Jackson Arpin (badminton) and Mackenzie Jolicouer (curling)
