Muskies shut out Bears


After a thrilling comeback win over the Dryden Eagles here Sunday, the Muskie boys' hockey team kept the momentum going with a 4-0 shutout over the Baudette Bears in exhibition action Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.

It also was the team's annual “Teddy Bear Toss” game.

After a scoreless first period, Matt Spence finally tallied with 6:46 left in the second to send a shower of teddy bears onto the ice.

Cole Magill then had a great chance later in the frame to double the Muskies' lead when he was hauled down but he rang his ensuing penalty shot attempt off the post.

Brady Bodnarchuk later dished a pass over to Nolan Mann, who went in all alone on the Bears' net and tucked in a backhander to put the Muskies up 2-1 just over nine minutes into the third.

Spence notched his second of the night on a power play on a feed from Connor Nelson and Peyton Avis to put the black-and-gold up by three with 4:42 to go.

Jake Barker capped the scoring with 2:24 remaining when he stripped a Bears' player of the puck before depositing it into the empty net.

Jaden Cooper earned the shutout between the pipes.

The Muskies next are in action today at a tournament in Brandon, Man.

Then they'll resume NorWOSSA action next Wednesday (Dec. 12) when they visit the Kenora Broncos.

As for the Muskie girls' squad, they're slated to resume league action tonight in Dryden against the Eagles before also heading to Kenora next Wednesday to battle the Broncos.
