Muskie boys nab win versus Kings

Staff

The Muskie boys’ hockey team proved its mettle against some tough competition here over the weekend.
Fort High got its first taste of game action as it hosted the Thunder Bay Midget ‘AAA’ Kings in a three-game exhibition series, coming away from it with a 1-2 record.
In the only game that wasn’t close score-wise, the Muskies opened play on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 loss at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
Ashton Cousineau scored the lone Muskie goal in the first period while Jaden Cooper suffered the loss between the pipes.
But it was a different story that evening, as the Muskies rebounded with a 4-3 win at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Brady Bodnarchuk, Sheldon Kelly, Mikel Ward, and Jacob Albright all lit the lamp with Darian Klem earning the win in goal.
Then in the series finale yesterday morning, the Kings rallied late to snatch a 4-2 victory at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Ward scored both goals for the black-and-gold in that one while Cooper suffered the loss in net.
The Muskies next will be in action on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when they open the NorWOSSA regular season in Kenora against the Broncos.
