The on-ice action is in full gear for another season for the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association.
A cross-divisional clash kicked things off as the PeeWee BDO Stars topped the Atom ‘AA’ Calder Legal Eagles 5-1 back on Oct. 18.
Marti Woods scored twice to lead the Stars while Makenna Hill, Abby McClam, and Shaylynn Marchuk added singles.
Julia Guertin netted the Eagles’ lone goal.
Atom house league action from last Thursday saw the Fort Frances AtoMc Icebergs dump the Emo Express 7-1.
Guertin led the way with a pair, with Courtney McCoy, Hayden Allam, Kassidy Gurniak, Piper Miller, and Tianna Walton adding singles.
Raelle Redford scored for the Express.
The Bantam ‘AA’ Leafs upset the Midget ‘A’ Chargers 6-4 on Friday (goal scorers unavailable).
Meanwhile, the first tournament action of the season belonged to the Eagles, who attended “Clash at the Lake” in Kenora over the weekend.
Fort Frances opened with a 4-0 shutout of the Thunder Bay Fury, with Miller notching a hat trick.
Kiera Fairnington added the other marker.
But the Eagles then were on the wrong end of a 9-0 drubbing by the DSA Snipers.
The squad bounced back to tie the Lake of the Woods Canucks 1-1, with Miller notching the goal.
Fort Frances then had a rematch with the Fury, this time with Thunder Bay prevailing 4-3.
Fairnington, Guertin, and Hailey “Hollywood Jr.” Bombay got the Eagles’ goals.
Further house league action saw the Stars beat Kaemingh Esso 3-1 on Saturday.
Woods, Hill, and McClam had BDO’s goals while Sam Kelly replied for Kaemingh.
Results from Sunday saw the Stars again prevail over Kaemingh Esso—this time by a 3-0 count.
Woods netted a pair while Hill had the other goal.
As well, the Bantam M&M squad beat the Bantam Eagles 5-3.
Jill Calder led M&M with two goals while Emily Kaun, Makenna Henttonen, and Hannah Degagne netted one each.
Pasquale Shortreed recorded a pair of tallies in a losing cause, Alex Gartzke adding the other one.
Yesterday, it was the Novice Tim Hortons Bruins blanking the Novice Lions Club 1-0.
Addison Chown had the lone goal of the contest, while Savannah Marchuk posted the shutout for the Bruins.
Other games yesterday saw the Emo Express nip the Stars 2-1.
Paige Yerxa and Teagan Friesen tallied for Emo, while Hill had the only marker for BDO.
As well, the Leafs doubled the Chargers 6-4.
