Carlson leads Knights

Fort Frances native Megan Carlson had a big hand in helping the Lynn University Fighting Knights capture top team honours at their first-annual Sprint Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. on Saturday.

With 705 points, the Knights easily outdistanced the second-place East Stroudsberg (Pa.) Warriors, who finished with 473.

Carlson had two individual victories and two second-place finishes.

She claimed the 100m backstroke (1:02.31) and also touched the wall first in the 100m butterfly (59.41).

She was the runner-up to teammates Rebecca Matthews in the 50m butterfly (27.34) and Thalie Carmigniani in the 100m freestyle (55.91).

“The Marine Machine” also did the butterfly leg of the 200m I.M. relay, which Lynn won by three seconds with a clocking of 1:51.45.

The Knights are back into the pool this Saturday when they’ll compete in a dual meet against the Rollins College Tars in Winter Park, Fla.
