Braves remain undefeated

It's been a great start to the Rainy River District Fastball League season for the two-time defending champion Fort Frances Braves.

Cole Tymkin smacked another homer to pace the Braves to a 17-1 rout of the Manitou Thunderbirds on Tuesday night to improve their record to a perfect 3-0.

Jaden Gustafson earned the win while Jeff Morrison was saddled with the loss for Manitou (1-2).

In other games Tuesday night, the Sabaskong Goldeneyes picked up their first win of the season with a narrow 4-3 decision over the Stratton Eagles.

Cole Beacham nabbed the win for the Goldeneyes (1-2) with Jeff Woolsey suffering the loss for Stratton (0-3).

Chris Morriseau cranked a grand slam to pace the Couchiching Raiders (2-1) to an 11-2 romp over the Sight & Sound Wolves (1-2).

Faron Morriseau and Mike Jourdain also homered for the Raiders while Aaron Caul went deep for the Wolves.

Sheldon Kelly Sr. earned the win over Kurtis Wepruk.

The Dawson Tigers (2-1) rolled over the Barwick Blue Knights (2-1) by an 8-2 count.

Kevin Gemmell nabbed the win while Tanner Smith took the loss.

Rob McGinnis pitched well and homered to lead Windey's Warriors (2-1) to a 7-5 win over the Northwest Bay Chieftains (0-3).

Jer Windigo and Don Smith also hit homers while Braden Smith suffered the loss.

Myron Armstrong pitched brilliantly, and helped his cause by hitting a round-tripper, to pace the Rainy River Royals (3-0) to a 13-3 rout of the Sabaskong Lakers.

James Yerxa was tagged with the loss for the Lakers (1-2).

Tonight's games will see the Goldeneyes hosting the Blue Knights, Dawson battling the Lakers in Pinewood, the Eagles trying to sink their talons into Royals, the Wolves welcoming the Warriors, the Chieftains trying to nab their first win against the Braves, and the Raiders will battle the Thunderbirds.

All games will start at 7 p.m. (weather permitting).

In Rainy River District Women's Fastball League action yesterday, meanwhile, only one of the five scheduled games took place due to rain.

The lone contest that was played saw the host Big Grassy Lynx double the Fort Frances Angels 8-4.

Candace Handorgan earned the win for Big Grassy (3-0) while Rylee Redford took the loss for the Angels (1-1-1).

The Fort Frances Her-icanes at Fort Frances Mud Dogs, Manitou T-Birdies at Red Gut Babes, Couchiching Raiders at Sabaskong Tebinaak, and Northwest Bay Beavers at Dawson Tigers games will be made up at a later date.
