Berea Edwards, a Grade 6 student at Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program (S.C.A.P.), showed off her science project, “Yeasty Balloons,” at Fort Frances High School on Saturday during the Sunset Country regional science fair hosted by the Rainy River District School Board. Her project demonstrated how yeast and other ingredients could be combined to create a chemical reaction that would inflate balloons. The winners in the senior division were Angie Redford and Anna Schwartz (RRDSB), followed by Kolten Gagne and Sabrina Blais, both from the Kenora Public District School Board. The quartet will be heading to the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Regina in May. Junior division winners were Angelina Nylund (KPDSB), Chloe Dolyny and Monika Ruppenstein (RRDSB), and Sullivan Wright (KPDSB).
