The Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Br. #29 met on Jan. 9, with 24 members in attendance.
The meeting was brought to order at 7 p.m. by president Alfreda Easton.
Minutes from the Dec. 12 general meeting and the Jan. 2 executive meeting were read and approved.
An initiation and welcome to Janet Fedoruk as a new member.
There also was the reinstatement of Kathy Bois (welcome back and congrats on your retirement).
A big thank you to Irene Laing for stepping forward to fill the secretary position for 2019.
We still are in need of a Ways and Means co-ordinator. If you can help out, contact Alfreda Easton at 274-9105.
In other auxiliary news, a total inventory of the kitchen and regalia was being completed for insurance purposes today (Jan. 17).
A reminder the auxiliary’s monthly supper, featuring cutlets with all the trimmings, along with salad, homemade dessert/pie, and tea/coffee, will be held on Friday, Jan. 25 starting at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion.
The cost is $16/plate. Take-outs are available by calling 274-3772 before 4:30 p.m.
As well, the district meeting is slated for April 5-6 in Rainy River, with the theme being “Through the Ages.”
Call Christina at 271-4292 to know if you will be attending as she is booking the rooms.
The auxiliary also is supported the new “Out of the Cold” homeless shelter by offering to provide supper two times per month for 15 people at the shelter.
Thank you to Christina for committing her time and services to prepare the meals.
Looking ahead, the auxiliary has agreed to allow the use of our kitchen to the 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet Squadron to hold a Family Day pancake breakfast as a fundraiser for their Juno Beach excursion.
Bring the kids out for breakfast on Feb. 18.
As an extension of the military services, we provide our support to the air cadets.
As well, Meals on Wheels dates for this spring have been set for March and April.
Preparations for Legion Convention, to be held June 14-17 in Fort Frances, also are ongoing.
The January birthday was won by Diane Taggart (card to Jane Hayes) while Carolyn Oliver won the 50/50 draw.
Jan Gosman won the attendance draw.
