The Rainy Lake Gymnastics Academy ended up falling short in its goal to claim the Tbaytel for Good Community Fund.
The RLGA—the only local club in the competition—was one of five finalists vying for a $5,000 prize and was hoping to use the funds for assistance with start-up equipment costs to bring gymnastics back to Fort Frances and surrounding communities.
In the end, the club finished in third place—about 28,000 votes back of the leader.
The winners will be announced this Thursday (June 27).
“Thank you, everyone, for all your support over the past 12 days of the Tbaytel Community Fund voting period,” the RLGA said in a post on its Facebook page.
"Although we fell short in the end, we fought hard right to the final minute and we're so grateful for everyone who invested their time and energy into voting for us so many thousands of times.
“The community spirit we experienced has energized us and we're optimistic about the future of gymnastics in Fort Frances,” it added.
“Stay tuned for some exciting announcements [this] week and for more ways you can help us raise funds for our equipment.”
The RLGA is scheduled to open in September and would like to purchase floor exercise and balance beam equipment to maximize reach for children of various ages within the program.
The club currently is selling tickets for a dimaond earring raffle.
The draw will be made on Canada Day at 4 p.m. at the Point Park.
Tickets cost $5 each and available at Lidkea Optometry and Investors Group as well as from Kiwanis Club and Gymnastics Academy members.
