Catch the Big One: $5,000 fish released into Rainy Lake

The Town of Fort Frances is welcoming anglers from across the North and Manitoba to try their hand at landing a $5,000 tagged bass fish. Rainy Lake has earned an international reputation as one of the best bass fisheries in North America, and this year it will be home to a special prize bass available for visitors to catch.
Residents of Rainy River district are not eligible to win the $5,000 cash prize, however if they do catch a tagged fish they will win a $200 reward.
“This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a day of fishing and go home with a heavier wallet than you started with,” says Geoff Gillon, Executive Director of the Rainy River Future Development Corporation (RRFDC). “Rainy Lake is notorious for holding trophy sized bass that love to fight. This year on of those trophy bass comes with a reward!”
The contest is sponsored by the RRFDC and organized by the Municipal Advisory Tax group. It is attached to a tourism marketing campaign encouraging fishers from all over the Northwest and Manitoba to pick Fort Frances as their destination this summer.
The deadline to catch the big one is October 1, 2020.
The winning green tag contains the words “WIN” and a secret code.
To be eligible to win, you must be a resident outside of the Rainy River district and provide proof of stay at a Fort Frances hotel or camp.
To receive your cash reward you must:
1.Catch a specially tagged and numbered bass on Rainy Lake between July 1 and October 1, 2020.
2.Remove the tag and bring it and present it to the Rainy River Future Development Corporation (RRFDC – 807-274-3276) at 601 Mowat Avenue, Fort Frances.
3.Provide a proof-of-stay receipt from a Fort Frances hotel or lodge.
4.Provide government-issued photo identification to the RRFDC that confirms your address is outside of the Rainy River district.
5.Provide a copy of your valid Ontario fishing license.
Only angling methods of capturing fish are allowed for contest purposes.
