More fires now ‘out’

While no new fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday, multiple fires recently have been declared “out.”

Five were declared “out” in Sioux Lookout District on Wednesday.

The lightning-caused blazes, located in the far north of the district, were “being observed” for some time.

A recent flight over the fires confirmed they no longer are active.

As well, Nipigon Fire #34, about 30 km northwest of Nipigon, was declared “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.

Six fires remain active in the region, including one in Red Lake District, three in Sioux Lookout District, and two in Nipigon District.

The fire hazard is forecast to be “low” in the southern sectors of the region, and “moderate” to “high” elsewhere.
