Kenora stand-off results in charges


A Kenora man was charged following an incident Sunday at the Anchor Inn there.

Just before 9:30 a.m., police responded to a domestic-related incident at a hotel on Lakeview Drive.

The victim reported she had been assaulted with a weapon.

She eventually was able to escape the room but the suspect was now barricaded inside with a weapon.

The victim was transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The OPP began an integrated police response, including the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), an OPP K9 Unit, members of the Northwest Region Crisis Negotiating Team (CNT), incident commanders, and the Northwest Region Crime Unit.

The incident came to a peaceful conclusion around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday when the subject was arrested by police.

A 31-year-old Kenora man subsequently was charged with assault with a weapon (spousal), assault (spousal), uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (spousal), forcible confinement, and mischief (domestic).

He also was charged with uttering threats of death or bodily harm and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon (two counts).

He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

The name of the accused has not been released to protect the identity of the victim.
