The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its monthly supper, featuring roast pork and all the trimmings, today (Nov. 24) at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30). The cost is $15/person, with a 50/50 draw also being held. Take-outs available by calling 274-3772.
The St. Mary’s Youth Group is having a winter garage sale at St. Mary’s today (Nov. 24) from 6-8 p.m. and again tomorrow (Nov. 25) from 8 a.m.-noon.
The Rainycrest Auxiliary will hold its fall bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. There will be a bake table, Christmas tree draw, and lucky lotto table, as well as gently-used items and gift ideas. Coffee/tea and dainties provided, with admission being a free-will offering. Everyone welcome!
“Les Filles D’esprit” will perform songs from their new holiday CD, “Frost,” on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. at the United Church in Emo (doors open at 3:15 p.m.) Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for students/seniors, which are available at Meyers Clothing in Emo. CDs also will be available for purchase while Knox penny table basket tickets and Zatoun Olive Oil will be for sale.
Town council will hold its next regular meeting Monday, Nov. 27 at the Civic Centre. The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the honouring of the 2017 “Citizen of the Year” at 6 p.m. and the awarding of more “Canada 150” volunteer pins at 7 p.m.
“Kids and Company” presents Juno Award winner Al Simmons, a creative genius who brings hilarity to music and comedy, on Monday, Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre.
A “community consultation,” hosted by the Northwest Training and Adjustment Board and facilitated by Mike Greaves of Fifth Hammer Marketing Group, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre. Registration is at 5 p.m., with dinner served at 5:30. Admission is free but ticket sales will close Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. (those interested in attending can register at Eventbrite).

The Muskie boys’ hockey team will face the Kenora Broncos in NorWOSSA action on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for students, and free for those under 12.

A launch of the long-awaited book featuring pioneer photos by William H. Tener will be held Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5-7 p.m. at the Fort Frances Museum. Refreshments also will be served.
“Breakfast at the North Pole” will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9-11 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church. There also will be gingerbread house decorating, crafts, and activities for kids. Santa also will be there from 9:30-10:30 a.m. so bring along your camera. The cost is $8/person.
Christmas cookie decorating, with professional baker Kayla Brady, will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 from 10:30 a.m.-noon at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre. A book launch for local author Jack Hedman’s new work, “Dire Needs–Dire Straits,” will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 from noon-3 p.m. at Betty’s. The book contains first-person accounts of education in this region from the 1930s-1960s, from railcar classrooms to residential schools.

The Fort Frances Choraliers’ Christmas cantata, this year entitled “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” is set for Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. An encore performance is slated for Sunday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls while Rainycrest residents will be given a free concert on Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
