'Snoasis' still a 'go' this Saturday

While spring has sprung a little early this year, the Friends of the Museum is going ahead with its “Snoasis 3” family fun day this Saturday (March 21), unofficially renaming the event “Puddles of Paradise.”

Kids are urged to wear their rain boots to the fun day, which will run from noon-2 p.m. in the parking lot at the Fort Frances Public Library.

“Planning outdoor events in March is always a gamble,” noted Friends’ president Duane Hicks.

“And with March Break being a [week] later this year, we knew we were pushing our luck,” he admitted.

“Nevertheless, we don’t want to cancel the whole thing so we’re making last-minute changes to provide some fun activities for kids that don’t rely on snow.

“Families have really enjoyed the prior two ‘Snoasis’ events and we don’t want to let them down,” Hicks added.

“We don’t want to lose that momentum.”

Outside the library, the event will feature fun and games, as well as free hotdogs (while supplies last) and bottled water.

The Friends of the Museum also will be selling what 2015 calendars it has left.

Given it’s already March, the calendars will be sold for half-price ($10 instead of $20), with proceeds going to the museum.

Inside the library, there also will be face-painting, cookies, hot chocolate, and storytime.

Inside the arena, meanwhile, there will be “Little Rocks” curling upstairs at the arena from noon-2 p.m. with Charlotte Bazylewski.

There also will be a toonie swim from 1:15-3:15 p.m.

Because of the lack of snow, the Rainy Lake Nordic Ski Club will not be participating this year.
