The Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity created the Our History Initiative to spread awareness about Canada's queer and trans history. Anticipating the launch of Canada's first 2SLGBTQIA+ museum, scheduled to open in Ottawa in 2021, the Our History Initiative is part of the CCGSD's mission to curate and share stories from the community and to provide a platform to battle ignorance and intolerance.
We are partnering with schools and organizations across Canada to produce downloadable exhibits that feature Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ artists and activists, and the matters that affect and inspire the community.
These individuals and organizations have played an integral role in paving the road towards a more inclusive and diverse Canada, and their stories must be told for future generations to learn from.
Along with the school exhibits, we have also created a study guide that highlights a handful of remarkable stories of queer and trans activism. The study guide will help educators get their students involved in learning more about Canada's 2SLGBTQIA+ history.
To view and download the study guide, click here. If you're interested in finding out how much you know about Canada's 2SLGBTQIA+ history, we have also created a short test.
For almost as long as this country has existed, the history of the 2SLGBTQIA+ experience has remained largely untold.
With your help, we can share Canada's queer and trans history and guide future generations into being ambassadors for a better future.
With your donations, we can build a museum to preserve and continue to tell these stories.
Without you, this history won't be taught. Without you, this history remains in the past. Without you, there is no history.
