The forest fire situation was quiet in the West Fire Region over the weekend, with just one new fire reported in Fort Frances District on Saturday evening.
The 0.1-hectare blaze was the result of an unattended campfire.
It is now “out.”
There currently are no fires burning in the region. The fire hazard is “low” in all locations except the Fort Frances and Dryden districts, which were reporting a “moderate” hazard.
At this time of year, people are cleaning up around their rural homes and cottages, burning brush piles and grass or igniting woody debris in burning barrels.
These types of fires always carry the risk of spreading into wildfires if not properly managed.
People are required to follow safe burning guidelines as set out under the Forest Fires Prevention Act.
Those living within a municipality should contact their local municipal office or fire department before burning.
