Guthrie United ready to host harvest supper


Guthrie United Church will be holding its annual harvest supper this Sunday (Oct. 5) from 5-7 p.m. in the Devlin Hall. The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children aged six-12 (those five and under are free), with tickets to be available at the door.

Come out for a fantastic meal and enjoy a visit with some old friends.

The 3:16 Club is beginning its “after-school program” today (Oct. 1) at the Calvary Baptist Church here in Emo.

The program will run from 3:30-5 p.m. each Wednesday, and will feature crafts, games, snacks, and a Bible story. It is for students from SK to Grade 5.

Cadets, which is being held at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, is a club for boys aged nine-15 (as of the end of December). Through Cadets, the boys will be involved in activities such as exploring, merit badges, projects, camp, Bible studies, meeting new friends, and much more.

Meetings are bi-weekly starting Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 7-9 p.m. The cost of registration is $50, which includes a uniform, guide book, and a subscription to the club magazine.

Those interested are asked to register by Friday, Oct. 10.

The United churches of the district held their Cambrian Presbytery Youth Event for students in Grades 7-12 in Dryden this past weekend.

The theme for the event was “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus,” and about 16 youths attended the weekend. They enjoyed bowling, a picnic in the park, and swimming.

True to the theme, they used drama and discussion groups to learn about the life of Jesus as portrayed in the Gospels.

Men’s basketball is starting up again this year, which will be held at Donald Young School in Emo on Thursday evenings. Plans are to get it going in the next couple of weeks.

If you really enjoy basketball or just need to get some exercise, then come out and give it a try. Players of all abilities are welcomed to attend.

The Emo Centennial Choir has started practising for Christmas. It meets Monday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church.

It is not too late to join., and the choir is especially in need of men. Come on out, guys!

You don’t need to be able to read music, just as long as you enjoy singing!
