District Remembrance Day services planned

The Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 has announced its plans for Remembrance Day 2008.
The day will begin with a service in the Devlin Hall at 10 a.m. Ceremonies at the cenotaphs in Devlin (11 a.m.) and Emo (11:45 a.m.) will follow.
A lunch then will be held in the Emo Legion at 12:45 p.m.
Cenotaph ceremonies in the afternoon will take place in Barwick (1:45 p.m.), Stratton (2:30 p.m.), and Rainy River First Nations (3:30 p.m.)
A Remembrance Day dinner then will take place at the Emo Legion at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the branch for $10 each, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The mission of the Royal Canadian Legion is “to serve veterans and their dependants, to promote Remembrance Day, and to act in the service of Canada and its communities.”

Knox United Church in Emo is presenting “Sounds of Holiday Cheer” on Saturday, Nov. 15 beginning at 7 p.m. The entertainment for the evening will feature the “Borderland Choral Bells” and the “Fort Harmonies,” conducted by Diane Maxey.
There also will be a bake sale and a display of holiday dolls.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $2 for youths aged 14 and under, which can be purchased at the Thread Shed, Cloverleaf, and Meyers Clothing, as well as from Joyce Meyers and Rev. Frances Flook.
Church members also will be taking orders for meat pies.
Come and join them for a wonderful evening.

Chapple is holding a retirement supper to honour Doris Dyson, who has worked for the township since 1972.
The supper and roast will take place Saturday, Nov. 22 at Barwick Hall. Cocktails will be at 6 p.m., followed by supper at 7.
Tickets cost $20 each, which includes the meal and a contribution to a gift for Doris.
Only advance tickets will be sold, so be sure to call if you are interested in attending.
