The Halkirk fire protection team will hold its 26th-annual fish fry on Saturday, Aug. 5 from noon-6 p.m. at the Bear Pass fire hall (Bear Pass Road). A bouncy castle will be on hand again this year. Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for kids (dessert included). No dogs please!

“Harlequin" will perform in concert Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m. at "The Duke" (Couchiching Arena), with local band "Kings of None” as the opening act. Tickets cost $35 in advance (available at Sight & Sound, the CC Complex, and the Couchiching band office) and $40 at the door.

The Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship continues today and tomorrow (July 21-22) under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. Today's weigh-in gets underway at 3:30 p.m., with the final one starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The 30th-annual “Railroad Daze” continues today through Sunday (July 21-23) in Rainy River.

The Fort Frances Lakers will hold a tryout camp today through Sunday (July 14-16) at Bronco Arena in International Falls. Registration and orientation begins at 7 p.m. tonight, followed by a scrimmage at 8:30. Scrimmages also will be held Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and 7 p.m., and again Sunday at 10 a.m.

The “Castin' for Cash” bass tournament began today (July 7) at Lake Despair Lodge, located at the end of Highway 613 North. Weigh-ins start at 3:30 p.m. both today and tomorrow (July 8), with the first-place team winning $5,000.

The Community Income Tax Program at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau (old CN station) has concluded. Those who have not picked up their tax records can do so there Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. Records will be held until today (June 30), after which they will be destroyed for privacy reasons. This includes records of past years, as well.

The annual “Relay for Life” will be held Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. at the Fort Frances Curling Club. A survivors' ceremony is set to run from noon-2 p.m.

Stock car racing goes Saturday, June 24 at the Emo Speedway, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting).

Motocross racing will be held June 17-18 at the EMX track located northwest of Emo (weather permitting). Rider registration is from 7-9 a.m., with practice from 9-11 a.m. and then the first race at 11 a.m. each day. A canteen also will be available. Admission is $10, with kids four and under being free. The “Walk for Alzheimer's” is slated for Saturday, June 10 along the La Verendrye Parkway. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Sorting Gap Marina, with a warm-up to follow at 10:45.
