A Valentine luncheon, hosted by St. John's Anglican Church, will be held there Friday, Feb. 9 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. It will feature assorted soups, sandwiches, and dainties, as well as a bake table. Admission is $8 for adults and everyone is welcome.
The SIJHL 2018 Showcase, presented by the Seven Generations Education Institute and Flint House, continues today (Jan. 31) with games featuring Thunder Bay vs. English River (1 p.m.), Thief River Falls vs. Minnesota (4:15 p.m.), and the Lakers vs. Dryden (7:30 p.m.) Admission is $25 for a day pass or $12 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for those 12 and under per game.
“Exercise Frosty Gunner," featuring personnel, vehicles, and equipment from the 116 Independent Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery (based in Kenora), will run today through Sunday on the land surrounding the Fort Frances Curling Club. A "focused display” will be held Saturday from 1-2:30 p.m. As well, a recruitment information booth will be set up Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Museum winter workshops for adults are starting soon, beginning with cupcake decorating (instructed by M. Spooner) on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 1-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Museum. Cost is $8. That will be followed by “Glass Suncatchers” (instructed by C. Pruys) on Monday, Jan. 22 from 6-8 p.m. at From the Grind Up, with the cost being $50.
A seniors' Bingo, sponsored by the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club, will be held at the Fort Frances Senior Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre) on Fridays from 1:30-3:30 p.m. starting today (Jan. 12). The cost is $2 per card, with the jackpot game being $1 per card.
The 31st-annual La Place Rendez-Vous squash tournament runs today through Sunday (Jan. 5-7) at the Memorial Sports Centre. Spectators welcome.
The U21 men's and women's provincial playdowns continue at the Fort Frances Curling Club. The final round-robin draw goes today (Dec. 29) at 4 p.m., with the finals slated for Saturday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. unless tie-breakers are needed. If they are, action will get underway at 9 a.m.
A Christmas Eve service will be held Sunday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church on Morrison Crescent (located behind the Copper River Inn).
Monroe Crossing presents “A Bluegrass Christmas” today (Dec. 15) at 7 p.m. at the Backus Auditorium in International Falls (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) Local family group Sloughgrass will be the opening act.
