Mitaanjigamiing First Nation
is seeking a

(Maternity Leave Term)

The Ganawendaasowin Counsellor will assist the Mitaanjigamiing
First Nation Ganawendaasowin Team. The Ganawendaasowin
Counsellor upon request is responsible for providing access to
traditional/clinical counselling services.
The Ganawendaasowin Counsellor will report directly to the
Ganawendaasowin Supervisor and is responsible for the
implementation of duties and responsibilities as outlined in job
Clinical Case Management: The Ganawendaasowin Counsellor
will provide clinical services to children and their families requiring
services as determined by the First Nation Ganawendaasowin
Program, conducts assessments of family functioning and social
history, prepares clinical service plan and assessment report, attends
committee meetings to provide information, prepares case notes of
sessions and termination reports;
Service Provisions: provide clinical counselling to children,
adolescents and other family members, provides services in
counselling, organize and coordinate the activities of support groups,
education workshops, preventative services and cultural activities
related to position, assists in designing, coordinating and conducting
community education workshops on parenting issues for parents and
caregivers, participate in the On-Call rotation schedule;
Service Administration: prepares monthly consolidated reports to the
Ganawendaasowin Supervisor, attends Family Counsellor meetings
scheduled by WFS.

  • Post-Secondary diploma in Social Services or related field;
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, minimum three-year’s experience

in counselling;

  • Knowledge of Ganawendaasowin Team and committee program

and structures;

  • Knowledge of Child and Family Services Act and Regulations;
  • Knowledge of Part X of the Child and Family Services Act,

Customary Care declarations and procedures;

  • Experience in conducting community workshops;
  • Experience in play therapy with children an asset;
  • Computer skills and efficient with hardware/software programs;
  • Ability to assist in coordinating traditional and contemporary healing

practices, and experience in working with Elders, Healers, and

  • Valid driver’s license in an asset;
  • Must provide vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to the

Mitaanjigamiing First Nation.
