Invites applications for the position of

The Family Counselor is a full-time, permanent, professional position. The
Family Counselor is responsible for the assessment of family functioning and
the provision of ongoing clinical counseling services to children, adolescents
and other family members, including the family as a unit, in family cases
of Weechi-it-te-win Family Services Inc. Under direction of the Resource
Manager and in conjunction with the appropriate Child Care Consultant,
the Family Counselor provides case management support to the team in
the investigation and assessment of family cases where children are at risk
of abuse.
The Family Counsellor reports to the Director of Nanaandawewenin or
1. Knowledge of systems theory and its application to families;
2. Experience in play therapy with children;
3. Thorough knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and
4. Working knowledge of the Rainy Lake Community Care Program
and Weechi-it-te-win’s service delivery system, and the policy and
procedures set by the Board of WFS;
5. A minimum of 4 years of experience in case management and the
provision of clinical services for children and family members;
6. Experience in assessing client and family problems and needs, and in
preparing family assessment reports and social histories;
7. Knowledge and experience in traditional and contemporary healing
practices, and experience in working with Elders, healers and clinicians;
8. Experience in and/or commitment to the development of alternative,
non-punitive, healing approaches that are derived from traditional
Anishinaabe culture;
9. Experience in conducting community workshops;
10. Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive narrative reports on
clinical services to clients;
11. Ability to speak Ojibway;
12. Knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Weechi-itte-win Family Services and family structure, as well as the customs and
traditions of the community;
13. Must provide a current criminal reference check,
1. A Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited university or a
master’s degree in a related field with training in individual and family
