Grade 3 students at St. Michael’s School were honoured to have Mr. and Mrs. Yerxa, elders from Couchiching First Nation, give them a talk about the culture and life of the early First Nations people. The students currently are studying the native people as part of the Grade 3 curriculum.

About 60 people came out for a community Thanksgiving dinner on Friday at the Salvation Army Citadel here. Volunteers cooked and served up a delicious meal of turkey, ham, potatoes, gravy, carrots, and pumpkin pie.
Students in Stephanie Hyatt’s junior kindergarten class at St. Michael’s School were excited to meet “Sparky” during a visit there on Wednesday. The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service has been visiting local schools throughout the week as part of “Fire Prevention Week” (Oct. 4-10).

Mike Taschuk held up the 50-pound musky he caught on Red Gut Bay last fall. Taschuk, who hails from New Brighton, Mn., recently had a replica of the fish made, which he now displays at his summer residence at Bear’s Pass.
