Darby helps crew paddle to podium

Laura Darby is slaying dragons these days, but they aren’t the mythical fire-breathing kind.

Darby, 21, the daughter of Deb Cornell and Bill Darby, works as a canoe technician on the interior portage crew for Quetico Park during the summer months—paddling the waters to help enforcement staff make sure campers are adhering to the rules and preventing fires, among other duties.

Emo soccer squad wins ‘B’ crown in Winnipeg

Who says Rainy River District only knows hockey?

The Emo boys’ under-12 soccer team sent its first-ever contingent to the East. St. Paul Summer Soccer Classic in Winnipeg over the weekend and returned with plenty of hardware after winning the ‘B’-side crown.

“The boys all came home with trophies and we called the big [team trophy] our FIFA Cup,” Lori Shortreed laughed.

Camp opens

Tristen Badiuk of the Muskie junior program worked through an agility drill while coach Walter Prymak looked on during the opening day of football camp at Fort High yesterday evening. The camp attracted 40 athletes from both the high school and junior (Grades 6-8) levels.
