Muskie hopefuls were put through a heavy dose of skating drills during the opening session of team tryouts last night. The tryouts continue tonight from 8:45-9:45 p.m. and again Friday from 5:45-7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.

Fort Frances Lakers are born

The not-for-profit, community-run effort to maintain junior ‘A’ hockey in Fort Frances now has an official name for the team it will ice in the SIJHL this season: The Lakers.

“We went through a few names [at Wednesday’s meeting] and came through with that,” board of directors president Milt Strachan Jr. said.

Sabres seeking name change

The drive to keep Junior ‘A’ hockey alive in Fort Frances is gaining steam.

A drive to garner 100 season-ticket holders by the end of this week was deemed a success, with 59 paid and more than 100 confirmed for the 2009-10 SIJHL season.

The not-for-profit, community-run effort elected a board of directors last night to oversee operations moving forward.
