RRDFL all-star game a big hit

On a night when the stars of the Rainy River District Fastball League took to the field at VanJura Ball Park here last night, Bill Copenace shown the brightest with a pair of home runs to pace Team One to a 10-3 victory.

Team Two actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead and was sailing along until the third inning, when Big Grassy Lightning ace Jeff Morrison ran into control problems.

RRDFL preps for playoffs

With the all-star game commencing last night (see front section for results) and the playoffs just around the corner (beginning Aug. 11), the local Rainy River District Fastball League is officially heating up.

A few make-up games are still to be played, but there won’t be much jockeying for position heading into the playoffs with the standings all but decided.

Big kick

Justin Bujold of International Travel Services drove one that eventually found the back of the net against the Rendez-Vous Voyageurs in men’s Borderland Soccer league action at the St. Francis Sportsfields last Thursday night. The game was halted midway through the first-half due to weather and is scheduled to be made up tomorrow night.

Puck battle

The Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey Skills School put participants through the paces in a variety of skill-orientated drills, including this one that focused on one-on-one puck battles. The camp—which ran all week long here—wraps up today at the Ice For Kids Arena.
