Nats rout Astros for 2-0 World Series lead

HOUSTON—Stephen Strasburg's time had come.

Famously held out of the post-season seven years ago, Strasburg delivered on the biggest stage of all last night.

The right-hander outpitched fellow ace Justin Verlander, overcoming a shaky start to help give the Washington Nationals a 12-3 win over the Houston Astros and a commanding 2-0 lead in the World Series.

Jays eke out win

HOUSTON—Toronto's Randal Grichuk put on a show for hundreds of family and friends who made the trek up to Houston to see him play just his third career game at a ballpark only about 35 miles from his hometown of Rosenberg, Tex.

Grichuk hit a two-run homer and made a huge defensive play, helping the Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 6-3 last night.

HOUSTON—J.J. Watt raised more than $37 million for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts while Jose Altuve led the Houston Astros to their first World Series title, both giving hope to the city as it picked up the pieces from the devastating storm.

Last night, the two were honoured by Sports Illustrated when they were given the magazine's prestigious Sportsperson of the Year award.
