Adams to start for Als, Manziel backs up

MONTREAL—Vernon Adams may be the starting quarterback when the Montreal Alouettes face the Edmonton Eskimos, but he knows he's only keeping the seat warm for Johnny Football.

Adams, the last Montreal starter to put together back-to-back wins in 2016, will be behind centre when the Alouettes (1-4) face the Eskimos (3-2) tonight at Percival Molson Stadium.

Canadiens soldier on through losing season

BROSSARD, Que.—The chances of making a late charge for a playoff spot are so slim the Montreal Canadiens don't really think about it much these days.

Sitting 14th in the 16-team NHL Eastern Conference with a 22-25-6 record, they only are eight points behind Columbus, who hold the final playoff spot, but there are five teams to climb over to catch them.

Plekanec moves up on Habs' scoring list

MONTREAL—Very quietly, Tomas Plekanec has moved up the Montreal Canadiens' all-time scoring list.

A goal and an assist in a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators yesterday afternoon gave the 35-year-old 601 career points.

He sits 13th in scoring in a lineup of mostly all-time greats that include Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau, Maurice (Rocket) Richard, and many others.

Flames edge Habs

MONTREAL—Missing Matthew Tkachuk to a suspension and having a back-up goalie in net wasn't going to stop the Calgary Flames.

Sean Monahan's second goal of the game 1:14 into overtime, and 35 saves from David Rittich, lifted the Flames to a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens last night.
