Jets soar past Devils

WINNIPEG—Mark Scheifele figures the pieces of the puzzle are starting to click together for the Winnipeg Jets.

His pair of goals, which gave him a team-leading nine, helped the Jets earn a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils yesterday.

He also had one assist.

“We've been playing the right way," Scheifele said. ”We've been in the right spots.

Bombers win big

WINNIPEG—Adam Bighill was signed by the Blue Bombers for his leadership and tenacious talents.

He delivered big time on Saturday.

The veteran linebacker had three quarterback sacks, one forced fumble that led to a touchdown, and eight defensive tackles in Winnipeg's 31-0 shutout of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Bombers looking to move past loss

WINNIPEG—Paul LaPolice had something important to say to Andrew Harris.

After Tuesday's practice, the Blue Bombers' offensive co-ordinator told reporters about a conversation he had with the star running back after Saturday night's 20-17 loss to the B.C. Lions.

“At the three-yard line, I should have gotten you one of those two touches,'” LaPolice said of his words to Harris.

Bombers nipped by Eskimos in epic CFL opener

WINNIPEG—You wouldn't think a field-goal kicker would have the greatest focus at 1 a.m. but Sean Whyte did.

The Edmonton Eskimos' 10-year veteran booted a 44-yard field goal with eight seconds to go to lift his team to a 33-30 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers early Friday in the longest continuous game in CFL history—and second-longest overall.
