Astros suddenly teetering on brink

NEW YORK—This time, it was Masahiro Tanaka who was untouchable on the mound.

And when the New York Yankees' sent Houston ace Dallas Keuchel to an early exit, their rollicking crowd let loose with a cathartic roar that must have boomed all over the Bronx.

“New York is no joke,” Keuchel said afterward.

One more big win and these Yankees are World Series-bound.

Yankees force deciding Game 5

NEW YORK—Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, and the N.Y. Yankees are headed back to Cleveland for a decisive Game 5—thanks to plenty of help from the Indians.

Severino rebounded from his playoff debacle, Judge delivered a big hit, and the Yankees took advantage of shoddy defence by Cleveland to beat the Indians 7-3 last night and even their AL Division Series at two games apiece.

Twins lose ground in playoff chase

NEW YORK—With the Yankees barely clinging to a late lead in a game with October implications, Aroldis Chapman made fast work of Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins.

Really fast.

Throwing all four pitches at least 100 m.p.h., Chapman worked out of big trouble in the eighth inning as New York edged Minnesota 2-1 last night to increase its AL wild-card cushion.
