Kadri's hat trick fuels Leafs over Caps

TORONTO—The jubilant cheers coming from the Maple Leafs' locker-room very easily could have been swapped out for a collective sigh of relief.

Nazem Kadri recorded his fifth-career hat trick as part of a four-point night, and Auston Matthews snapped the second-longest goal drought of his career, as Toronto doubled the free-falling Washington Capitals 6-3 last night.

Predators too much for Leafs to handle

TORONTO—Class was in session for the Maple Leafs last night.

And Toronto head coach Mike Babcock was clear in his grading—they didn't pass the test.

Pekka Rinne made 18 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Nashville Predators jumped out to a 2-0 lead through two periods before choking off any hope of a comeback over the final 20 minutes in a 4-0 victory.

Leafs nab win in Matthews' return

TORONTO—Auston Matthews says the last month has been torture watching his Toronto Maple Leafs.

The team's star centre jumped right back in the action without missing a beat last night.

Matthews had two goals and an assist in his return to the lineup after missing 14 games with a shoulder injury as the Leafs beat the San Jose Sharks 5-3 for their third-straight victory.
