Blue Knights romp over Royals

Vaughan Wilson and Jaxon Calder both homered to pace the Barwick Blue Knights to a 15-2 romp over the Rainy River Royals in Rainy River District Fastball League action on Tuesday night.

Tanner Smith garnered the pitching win for the Blue Knights (10-4) over Myron Armstrong of the Royals (7-5).

Four new fires over weekend

There were four new forest fires confirmed yesterday in the region.

Fort Frances fire #11 was located near Calm Lake, but has been declared out at 0.1 hectares in size.

Sioux Lookout fire #29 is being observed at 0.7 ha. and is located near Petownikip Lake, approximately 57 kilometres west of Weagamow First Nation.

Raiders roll to 10th win of season

The Couchiching Raiders are proving to be a problem for a lot of teams in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League.

Grace Bragg and Darcy Jones homered to pace the Raiders to their league-leading 10th win of the season in a 19-12 decision over the Fort Frances Angels last night at Couchiching.

Raelle Redford hit a homer in a losing cause for the Angels.

Hospital workers rally against cuts

Local health care workers recently took a stand against the Progressive Conservative government's restructuring, centralization, and reduced funding of health care services.

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU) rallied outside of La Verendrye Hospital yesterday in defence of public health.
