Tbaytel doing an upgrade

In order to improve mobility network performance, Tbaytel will be performing scheduled network upgrade maintenance tomorrow (Sept. 20) from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

During this time, Tbaytel mobility customers in the Atikokan area may experience service disruptions or outages to their Tbaytel HSPA mobility service, including voice calls, data usage, and texting.

Backus planning to host second 'harvest dinner'

The Backus Community Center in International Falls will host a fall harvest fundraising dinner on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The second-annual dinner, featuring a menu of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, rutabagas, pickled beets, and dinner rolls, will be held on the Backus stage, with take-out meals picked up from the kitchen window.

Backus set to launch new season

This Friday (Sept. 14), the Backus Community Center in International Falls will host a “members only” ice-cream social, with music played on the concert Steinway grand piano on stage, as a launch to its 2018-19 performing arts season.

Members, contributors, sponsors, and those wishing to become Backus members are welcome to attend.

Tree seed plant backed

The NDP's forestry critic, Judith Monteith-Farrell, said Ontario's tree seed plant should be kept open—and kept in public hands—as the future of the plant remains in limbo.

The Ontario Tree Seed Plant, located in the town of Angus, has been preserving biodiversity, as well as supporting forest products and wood manufacturing, since 1923.
