Mother's Day celebrations all set to go this Sunday

Mother's Day is this Sunday. and there are two events to taking place to celebrate this special day!

The Guthrie and Knox United Churches will be hosting a walleye supper on Sunday. The meal will be walleye, homemade french fries, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert.

The cost is $18 for adults, $10 for children between six and 12 years, and free for kids five and under.

'Education Week' to be at Crossroads

“Education Week” takes place at Crossroads School May 6-10 this year. Staff and students have been busy planning the Crossroads Block Party this family fun event will be from 5-7:30 p.m.

The Street Eats Venders will be open from 5-6 p.m. Hoping everyone can be ready for activities starting at 6 p.m.

The theme this year is “Full Steam ” ahead.

Guthrie tea coming up

Guthrie United Church will host its annual spring tea on Saturday, March 30 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Devlin Hall.

Dessert, coffee/tea, and refreshments for kids will be served. There also will be a bake sale, cookie bake, and penny table as part of the fun.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children aged six-12, with those five and under being free.

Nominees being sought for top senior

This is the time of year when the Township of La Vallee is asking for nominations for its “Senior of the Year” award. Residents are asked to nominate someone who they think should receive it.

The nominees has to be a resident of our township, be age 65 or older, and someone who has made our community a better place to live through volunteering their time, etc.

Firefighters able to extinguish blaze

Back on Jan. 17, volunteer firefighters from La Vallee and Emo responded to a blaze on Wasaw Road in which a chimney fire at a residence spread to the attic.

Fortunately, it was extinguished quickly using a transitional attack using dry chemicals.

Fire Chief Josh Collins was grateful for all the volunteers that responded and the efficient way the fire was put out.
