Bumping it up

Senior Muskie Pasquel Shortreed bumped a shot from the visiting Dryden Eagles during Fort High's four-set victory (25-17, 23-25, 25-20, and 26-24) yesterday afternoon. The seniors improved their NorWOSSA record to 3-2 with the win.

Postcard penpals

Dahlia Kaun, left, Hayden Allam, Olivia Allan, Avery Sinclair, Lynden Peters, Marie Mai Langevin, Izzy Meeks, and Cadence Smith-Anderson showed off some of the postcards they received from penpals during a meeting of the “Tween Club" yesterday afternoon at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre.

PeeWee action

Fort Frances Canadians' forward Klyde LaPlante (6) battled to get the puck from Maccus Kuokkanen of the Neebing Hawks during yesterday's final of the annual PeeWee 'AA' tournament held here. The Hawks won the closely-contested game by a 3-1 margin to claim the tourney title.

Tree pickup

Fort Frances Fire Chief/CEMC Tyler Moffitt chucked another tree onto the trailer Saturday afternoon during the Fort Frances Fire Brigade's annual Christmas tree pickup. Teams spent the afternoon collecting the trees, of which there seems to be fewer and fewer each year. The trees then were taken to the wood chipper at Daryl's Custom Landscapes Ltd.

'Baby Time' begins

Moms and their babies were at the Fort Frances Public Library yesterday morning for the start of the winter session of “Baby Time.” The program runs every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Register online at ffpltc.ca/node/891 but drop-ins also welcome.

Clearing sidewalks

The town's trackless sidewalk plow cleared a path along King's Highway yesterday after a dump of snow fell on Borderland the previous night. The white stuff has been followed up with bitterly cold temperatures, with the wind chill value near minus-40 C this morning. Unfortunately, more frigid nights and mornings expected into next week.

Muskie Jessica Steele looked to consider her options during Fort High's 1-0 win over the visiting Dryden Eagles yesterday afternoon in NorWOSSA action at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena). Kamryn Sandelovich earned the shutout in goal for the Muskies, who improved their league record to 10-0-1. See story inside.

Arcing shot

Senior Muskie Austin Brown heaved up a three-point attempt during a game against the BDO Ballerz in Fort Frances Men's Basketball League Action on Tuesday night. The league runs every Tuesday in the Fort High gym, with the first of three games starting at 6:40 p.m.

Jam attempt

Dryden Eagles' forward Jacob Looli tried to jam the puck past Muskie goalie Darian Klem while defenceman Jace Jackson hurried on the backcheck last night at the “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena). Klem stopped every shot he faced en route to a 4-0 shutout win for the Muskies, who improved their NorWOSSA regular-season record to 8-0.

ID kit

Mary O'Connor of the local Alzheimer Society showed off one of the “Finding Your Way” identification kits she is urging people with loved ones with dementia to fill out.
