The Sunset Country Métis Council and the Métis Nation of Ontario Healing and Wellness Branch held a “Paddle into the New Year” event Saturday at the Sunset Country Métis Hall, where they had posters set up with MNO program information. The event also included a free meal for the community, along with bannock- and bead-making sessions, among other activities for adults and children.
New Rainy River District OPP detachment commander Insp. Nathan Schmidt gave an activity update to the local Police Services Board during its regular meeting this morning at the Civic Centre. Insp. Schmidt has filled the shoes of Insp. Steve Shouldice, who served 19 years with the Rainy River District OPP before relocating to Smiths Falls, Ont. last month.
Fort Frances Lakers' forward Christian Ward broke his way in on Thief River Falls Norskies' goalie Jackson Nelson for a scoring chance during his team's 5-4 loss to the visitors Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.
