Laser shot

Former University of Maine Black Bears’ forward Jill Langtry (20), the only ex-NCAA player on the ice, was a force to be reckoned with as she helped the alumni squad cruise to a 10-2 shellacking of the current Muskie girls’ hockey team in their annual exhibition battle Friday at the ’52 Canadians Arena.

Clash of the cousins

Kelsey Langtry, left, wasn’t cutting her cousin, Jill Langtry, any slack when it came to defending her older relative during the Muskie girls’ hockey alumni game on Friday at the ’52 Canadians Arena. The current Muskies were seriously lacking in effective defence, though, as the black-clad alumni roared past their youthful counterparts 10-2.

‘Drumroll, please . . .’

Kelsey-Rose Dillon of International Travel Services drew the January “Trip of the Month” draw winner as local Kiwanian Robin Wright looked on there this morning. Monica Armour of Fort Frances will be heading on a Northern European cruise—a trip valued at $4,700. Next month’s trip is to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ($4,100).

‘Polar Plunge’

Fort Frances Lions’ hockey player Joe Hardy, left, wasted no time hopping into the frigid waters of Sand Bay while teammates Kael Archie and Parker Nastiuk looked on during the annual “Polar Plunge” held New Year’s Day. Some 44 jumpers raised a total of $13,256.50, with some even hitting the water twice.
