Despite the frigid temperatures, Fort Frances Jail staff participated in a “Day of Action” demonstration there yesterday afternoon. Correctional services workers across the province took part in the protest against the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Fort Frances Holmlund Leafs’ goalie Anthony Gill-Roisin denied Fort Frances Wu Warriors’ forward Cam Bowles on this golden scoring chance in the second period of the final of the seven-team FFMHA Bantam ‘A’ tournament yesterday at the Ice For Kids Arena. Dayton Labbe’s goal 46 seconds into overtime gave the Warriors a 6-5 win and the title.

Icy plunge

Rev. Barb Miller and Randy DeGagne took the plunge in support of the “Knox Renewal Project” yesterday during the Voyageur Lions Club’s annual “Polar Plunge” on Sand Bay. Together, the pair raised $2,588, making them the top fundraising group this year.

First winner

Miranda Veitch of Century 21 pulled out the winning ticket for the 16th-annual “Trip of the Month” draw hosted by the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club at International Travel this morning as Kiwanian Robin Wright looked on. Carla Koski of Fort Frances was the first winner of 2015, earning herself a trip to the Maritimes valued at $4,800.
