‘Dear Santa . . .’

Ashton Barnes mailed his letter to Santa yesterday at the Times office just before the deadline to get it o the North Pole. While the Times will be sure to forward district children’s letters to jolly St. Nick as promised, the letters also will be reprinted for everyone to enjoy in the annual Christmas Greetings edition included with next Wednesday’s Times.

Defending the Court

Morgan Anderson laid out to defend the ball from the Kenora Broncos during the final of the La Place Rendez-Vous senior boy's basketball tournament here Saturday. While Anderson showed flashes of strong defence, his offensive prowess and outside shooting, which led to a team-leading 43 points, were his calling cards on the weekend.

Youth Cam Conference

Pam Hawley, curator of the Fort Frances Museum offered up a cultural awareness presentation to participants of the Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies Youth Communication Advocacy Network (YouthCAN) conference here Monday. The youths also learned about healthy living and physical activity, as well as making new friends from across the region.

Assistant driller Benoit Fournel got a first look at the fruit of his labours—fresh core samples. These will be carefully studied for their mineral content.

'Get Smart' hits the stage

Michael Brady, right, playing Maxwell Smart, and Justine Christie (Agent 99) got into a sticky situation at the Fortune Cookie Club as they were guarded by Jessica Liggins (Mary Wong) in a scene from “Get Smart” on Friday night. Muskie Theatre offered up the production last Thursday through Saturday at the Townshend Theatre.

Season for song

The Fort Frances Choraliers, directed by Diane Maxey, performed a “dress rehearsal” of their Christmas cantata, “For the Love of Christmas,” last night at Rainycrest. Their main performance will be this coming Sunday (Dec. 16) at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Admission is a goodwill offering.

Muskie rebound

Jeremy Strain (32) tipped in a rebound during the Muskie senior boys’ championship win over the Kenora Broncos at the annual La Place Rendez-Vous tournament here Saturday. Strain had 12 points in the game, and 39 over the weekend, as the Muskies won their host tournament for the first time in seven years.
