North Pole visitor

Shawn Wyder was all smiles as he received a present from Santa Claus during a Christmas party at the Fort Frances Day Care on Thursday afternoon. With Christmas coming up in mere days now, ol’ St. Nick has made a series of early visits to Rainy River District in recent weeks.

Christmas concert

Senior kindergarten students from F.H. Huffman School rehearsed their performance for the Christmas concert yesterday at the Townshend Theatre. The actual concert runs there tonight at 7 p.m.

Christmas wishes

Connor Dent told Santa Claus what he wanted for Christmas this morning during a visit to the Children’s Department at the Fort Frances Public Library. Prior to Santa’s surprise arrival, the youngsters, who were there for “Storytime,” were treated to holiday tales, as well as cookies and juice.

Fire building

QPO1 George Kemper-Lukasevics, left, of the 144 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Fort Frances, instructed a group on different ways to build on fire on Saturday during their annual survival training. Spending the day outdoors in the woods, the corps learned such skills as reading compasses, building shelters, and snowshoeing.

Muskie boys action

Joe Basaraba made his way through centre ice during the Muskies’ exhibition game Saturday afternoon against the visiting Kittson Central Wolfpack. Basaraba, who leads the team in scoring, couldn’t find his way onto the scoresheet during Fort High’s 10-1 rout of Kittson, but contributed an assist the night before in their 4-2 win over the Kenora Broncos.

‘The Love of God’

Under the direction of Diane Maxey, the Fort Frances Choraliers performed the cantata, “The Love of God at Christmas,” yesterday afternoon at St. Mary’s Church. The Borderland Choral Bells also presented several songs at the beginning of the annual concert.

‘The Christmas Story’

“Joseph” (Michael Drouin), left, and “Mary” (Emma Noga) smiled at their newborn baby Jesus as they took shelter in the manger during the dress rehearsal of St. Michael’s Christmas concert yesterday afternoon. The actual concert, featuring students in Grades 1-3, was held yesterday evening. A concert for the JK/SK students will be held this Wednesday (Dec. 19) at 6:30 p.m.
