Plaque dedication

Bill Gushulak, left, Pat McPherson, Bernice Armit, and Graham Matheson admired the new plaque that was hung up in the Ice for Kids Arena on Dec. 21. The plaque is dedicated in memory of Dave Armit, a longtime hockey supporter who recently passed away.

Taking the plunge

Times sports reporter Jenni Condon braved the elements on Sunday and participated in the annual “Polar Plunge” to raise funds for the Voyageurs Lions Club. Condon—an Ottawa native who recently moved to town—said she thought the experience was unique and would do it again next year. Overall, the more than 40 jumpers raised $12,660.

Rink repair

Local hockey fans Gary Beck, John Pierce and former Muskie, Kris Esselink, volunteered their time over the holidays to rebuild the player benches at the 52’ Canadian’s arena. The plan is to make the benches bigger so that the players are more comfortable when they’re not on the ice.
