LEONIS YVONNE GILLIES

With great sadness, the Woolsey families mourn the peaceful passing of Leonis Yvonne (Woolsey) Gillies, at the age of 104, on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home in Fort Frances, Ont.

Leonis was born in Dorchester, N.B. on Nov. 23, 1913. She came to the Rainy River District in 1926, where she spent the next 92 years.

She married Harold Forrest Woolsey on Dec. 27, 1930. They had 11 children before Harold passed in 1954.

ALPHONSE LaROCHE

It is with great sadness that the family of Alphonse LaRoche announces his peaceful passing, at the age of 101, with his family by his side.

Alphonse was born on April 15 ,1917 in the little town of Otterburne, Man. to Alphonsine and Joseph LaRoche. He was the eldest of nine children.

He married his true love, Laurence (Vien), on June 22 ,1939. Together they had five children—four in Manitoba and a fifth in Fort Frances, Ont. 10 years after their move here.

KAYLA LYNN BRUYERE

With her parents by her side, Kayla Lynn peacefully walked through the Gates of Heaven on Sunday, May 13, 2018.

Kayla was born on Oct. 16, 1985 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Man. Though faced with many challenges, she always endured with the most beautiful smile and positive attitude.

She is our inspiration to never give up.

Kayla was adamant on keeping a routine, which included playing solitaire, board games, listening to Shania, and watching her daily episodes of the “Young and the Restless," "Days of Our Lives," and the "Golden Girls.”

DAVID CONRAD LEMIEUX

It is with great sadness that the family of David Conrad Lemieux announces his passing on Friday, May 11, 2018 in Edmonton, Alta.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1967 in Fort Frances, Ont.

Dave is survived by his special friend, Kathy Tracy; mother, Dolly Lemieux; sisters, Gail Lemieux and Diane Pattison (Rod); and nephews, Brian Johnstone, and Gary and Jason Pattison and their families.

He was predeceased by his father, Conrad, in 2012 and his brother, Gary, in 1976.

Our family will miss him dearly but we have lots of great memories.

SHIRLEY MARGARET AVIS

Shirley Margaret Avis passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the age of 88.

Shirley was born in Fort Frances, Ont. to Ruth and Fred Williams on July 30, 1929.

She was preceded by her parents; husband, Walter Avis; and siblings and their spouses, Dorothy and Jim Mitchell, Marion and Bill Gow, Frank and Donna Williams, and brother, Lloyd.

WILLIAM KENNETH GRATTON

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our brother, husband, and father, William Kenneth Gratton, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

Ken was born on Nov. 12, 1947 in Kenora, Ont. In early childhood, he moved with his parents, Bill and Rene Gratton, and sister, Sandy, to Fort Frances, Ont., where his father operated the North Star/Shell service station at the corner of Scott Street and Portage Avenue.

ALPHONSE LaROCHE

It is with great sadness that the family of Alphonse LaRoche announces his passing on Thursday, May 3, 2018.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ont.

PAUL IVOR DALSEG

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Ivor Dalseg at the age of 93.

He passed away peacefully, at home, with the loving care of family and caregivers.

Paul was born on the family farm in McInnes Creek, Spohn Township on Aug. 5, 1924.

His wife, Eleanor, with whom he shared a loving and blessed marriage for 50 years, predeceased him. He also was predeceased by his siblings, Harley, Norman, Melvin, Roy, and Judy.

ARLEEN DORIS STEINKE

Arleen Doris Steinke (nee Jeffery) passed away peacefully, at the age of 84, on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home in Fort Frances, Ont.

She leaves behind her husband, Jack; son, Robert (Gaye) and children, Meredith and Corey, of Vail, Colo.; daughter, Tammy (John) and children, Jaclyn of Calgary, Alta. and Jonathan (Nicci) Bock and great-granddaughter, Nora, of Edmonton, Alta.; son, Jeffery (Janice) and his children, Carly and Taylor, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and son, Patrick (Sherri) and her children, Tyler, Braeden, and Jaelyn, of Thunder Bay, Ont.

JORDAN ASHISH MECK

Jordan Ashish Meck, of Barwick, Ont., passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 25, 2018 at the age of one year, six months, and nine days.

He was born on Oct. 16, 2016 to Daryl and Rhoda (Martin) Meck.

Jordan brought a little bit of Heaven to his family during his short life here, and will be lovingly remembered for his sweet, endearing smiles that he gave freely to everyone—even though he often suffered discomfort and difficulty breathing because of his defective heart.

SHIRLEY MARGARET AVIS

It is with great sadness the family of Shirley Avis announce her passing on Monday, April 30, 2018.

Mom was born on July 30, 1929 and lived her entire life in Fort Frances, Ont.

At her request, a celebration of her life will take place at a later date, with a private family interment.

ELAINE MARGARET BENNELL

Angels wrapped their arms around Elaine Margaret Bennell on April 21, 2018 and reunited her with her husband, Clifford (2006), and her son, Dwayne (1975).

Left behind to cherish her memories are her children, Danny (Sue), Bonnie Lynn (Randy), Rick, Keith (Dana), Tammie (Cody), and Ted (Janice) and their families.

She also is survived by her sister, Verna Strong; brother, Minard Haney; and sisters-in-law, Violet Strom, Eva McClain, and Joanne Hutynuk.

Interment to be held at Prince George Cemetery on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11 a.m.

WILLIAM JAMES ('JIM') INKSTER

William James (“Jim”) Inkster passed away on April 26, 2018 at the age of 93.

He was born on April 12, 1925 in Selkirk, Man.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maxine Inkster (nee Gadd), and his six children, Barrie Inkster (Debbie), Shelley Toninato (Robert), David Inkster (Cathy), Wendy Calder, Dale Inkster, and Chiney Inkster.

He was a proud “Papa” to 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was well-known in his younger years as one of the best fastball pitchers in the area.

Jim has requested that there be no funeral.

SHIRLEY MAE GADD

With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Shirley Gadd, 74, of Fort Frances, Ont., on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

Shirley was born in Shenston Township on Dec. 21, 1943 to Henry and Violet Ahrens.

She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Gadd on Aug. 25, 1982.

Shirley enjoyed her flower beds, bowling, travelling, and spending time with family. She was a member of the T.O.P.S. Club and the Birthday Club.

A service of celebration and remembrance will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.

Shirley Mae Gadd (nee Ahrens), 74, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.

A service of celebration and remembrance will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.

JACQUELINE ROSTE

On March 31, 2018, Jackie Roste passed away peacefully at Grove Park Home in Barrie, Ont.

Mary Jacqueline Roste, known as Jackie and affectionately known as “Cookie” by her cousins and high school friends, was born on Aug. 13, 1941 in Macklin, Sask. to Grace (nee Crowe) and Jacob Shucard, along with brother, Gerald Schucard.

Shortly after Jackie's birth, the family moved to Fort Frances, Ont., where Jackie lived most of her life. It was in Fort Frances that Jackie met Wayne Roste and they were married.

PAUL DAVID BEGIN

It is with deep sadness that the family of Paul David George Begin announces his sudden passing on Friday, April 20, 2108 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Paul was born on Aug. 8, 1942 in Fort William, Ont. to Cecilia and Adelord Begin. He grew up and attended school in Thunder Bay before moving away and settling in Fort Frances, where he lived until his passing.

LESLIE CLARENCE HOWARTH

Sadly, the family announces the passing of Leslie Howarth, 82, of Fort Frances, Ont., on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.

Leslie was born on Aug. 4, 1935 in Fort Frances to Cecil and Zelma Howarth.

He was an avid photographer, learning from his father over the years, and he often would be seen taking wedding pictures and at social events. He also enjoyed living the majority of his life at his family cabin on Rocky Inlet.

JUDY ANN COPENACE ('WAWATAY'-ATIK)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Judy Ann Copenace, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Big Grassy First Nation.

Judy was born on Dec. 15, 1965 in Rainy River, Ont. to Daniel Copenace and Lillian Cochrane.

She was predeceased by her parents and older brother, Steven Copenace.

A traditional wake was held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 3 p.m. at the Big Grassy F.N. Hall, followed by a traditional service on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10 a.m., with Elder Harry Windigo officiating.

ALAN WENSLEY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Cameron Wensley on Saturday, April 21, 2018, with his family by his side, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Alan was born on Dec. 21, 1938 in Emo, Ont. At the age of 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce and worked as an Aeroengine Technician at Camp Borden, Ont. It was there he met the love of his life and future wife, Bernice Dungey.

TRISTAN WEBB

It is with profound sadness the family announces the unexpected passing of our dear boy, Tristan Joseph Webb, age nine, on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

Tristan was born in Thunder Bay, Ont. on May 20, 2008. He came into the world early at 34 weeks and was a strong little fighter from the start.

He lived in Fort Frances for the first couple of years, then the family returned to Thunder Bay.

CHARLES ('CHUCK') HARRISON

Sadly, the family announces the passing of Charles Harrison, 83, a former longtime resident of Barwick, Ont., on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his residence in Fort Frances, Ont.

Chuck was born on Sept. 4, 1934 in Rossburn, Man. to Irwin and Blanche Harrison.

Chuck was passionate about watching sports, often challenging other sports enthusiasts to a small wager just for fun. He also loved to play cards, listen to classic country and western music, test his luck at casinos, and spend time with friends and family.

FRANCES KEPES

We are saddened to announce the passing of Frances Kepes, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care Home in Fort Frances, Ont., on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the age of 87.

Frances Marosi was born in Kislod, Hungary in 1931 to Johan and Elizabeth. She was an only child as her father and infant brother passed while she was very young.

Paul David Begin, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed way on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.
